A few years ago I recieved a set of Popular Mechanics encyclopedias. It was a wonderful gift. The volumes contain a multitude of projects, tips, and ideas for the crafty/handy individual. Since they were published in the sixties, however, some of the projects are a little old-fashioned (hand-made decorations straight from the set of Christmas Story); others are outright obsolete (how to tune-up that new v-8 for maximum fuel efficiency). Contained in these pages, though, there are more than a few ideas that I think will make for really intriguing and interesting projects. Over the course of the next few months, or maybe years, I plan to work through some of these projects. I’ll post my progress here; including the original instructions, as well as any changes that I see fit to make.
As a hint at the nature of the first project that I plan to tackle I’ll leave this snippet from Coleridge:
"And what if all of animated nature
Be but organic harps diversely framed,
That tremble into thought, as o’er them sweeps
Plastic and vast, one intellectual breeze,
At once the Soul of each, and God of All?"
